About Thérèse
Thérèse Cilia is a painter and illustrator whose whimsical and meticulously detailed work includes pattern design, textiles, art prints, stationery, picture books and magazine features.
Thérèse’s current art obsession is surface design. While creating patterns for a children’s organic clothing company for the brand’s debut, she discovered a new passion and way to combine her love of illustration and design.
Whether she is painting botanicals, designing patterns for interiors and clothing, or inking for magazines, her work is always based on a strong drawing foundation and fine observational skills.
An introvert, Thérèse is happiest puttering in her little home, reading piles of library books, drinking strong coffee, and of course, drawing.
Thérèse is inspired by stories of the human spirit, the natural world, and an obsession with artist materials and paper products. She obtained her BFA in 2007 at OCAD University in Toronto and lives with her husband, and two kids in Long Sault, Ontario.
About Strawberry Snail
Strawberry Snail was born in 2011 when I began making ink and watercolour drawings in my sketchbook after a previous life of painting in oil. The drawings allowed me to loosen up, find my voice and remember what it was like to experiment and play. When I showed my work to people, it resonated so much that I opened a shop on Etsy selling notecards and art prints. I also taught myself pattern design, starting with tea towels and pillow covers I sewed myself. I expanded to include wrapping paper, stickers and mouse pads. More recently I have been investing in a surface pattern design career by completing Bonnie Christine’s Surface Pattern Design Immersion course.
I recently moved my shop from Etsy to strawberrysnail.com to create a real home for Strawberry Snail. You can find all my products here
